Terms of Service

Version 1.0 — March 2026
Most terms of service are written to protect the platform from its members. These are written to be understood by them.
If something here is unclear, ask us. If something here conflicts with the Constitution, the Constitution wins.
What membership is
Membership in Our One means you have read the Constitution, paid the annual fee of $3.65 (one cent a day), and agreed to use the platform in the ways described here.
You are not a user. You are not a customer. You are a member of a platform you own. The Constitution defines what that ownership means. The short version: the platform cannot be sold without your consent, the rules cannot change without your participation, and your data cannot be used against you.
What you get
Access to the full platform: your professional profile, the chronological feed, the Brief, Active Seasons, Signals, and private messaging. Constitutional protections that apply from day one and cannot be removed by business decision. The right to export your data at any time. The right to participate in governance. The right to leave whenever you want, taking everything you contributed.
There are no premium tiers. There are no features withheld from some members and sold to others. The platform works for every member equally.
What you give us
The annual membership fee. $3.65 per year, billed annually. This covers infrastructure and the steward team. The breakdown is published.
A license to operate the platform. When you post content, you give us a limited, non-exclusive license to store it, display it to other members as you have configured, and back it up. You own the content. We operate the infrastructure it lives on. This license ends when you delete the content or close your account.
Your agreement to the member conduct rules below.
Member conduct
Our One works because members treat each other with the same good faith they would extend in a professional context.
What is not permitted:
- Harassment, threats, or targeted abuse of any person
- Impersonation of another person or organization
- Publishing content you know to be false and intend to be harmful
- Spam: unsolicited bulk messages, automated following, manufactured engagement
- Attempting to extract or scrape member data without authorization
- Automated access to the platform without prior written permission (API rate limits apply)
- Using Our One to coordinate illegal activity
What is always permitted:
- Disagreement, including strong disagreement
- Criticism of Our One, its stewards, its decisions, and its policies — including publishing that criticism on the platform
- Organizing members around governance proposals
- Sharing information about other platforms, leaving Our One, or recommending alternatives
The line is between conduct that harms specific people and speech that is uncomfortable to someone. We enforce the first. We do not manage the second.
Content you publish
You own it. We display it. When you delete it, it is gone within 30 days from all systems.
We will remove content that violates the conduct rules above. If we remove your content, we tell you why, specifically. You can appeal the decision. Appeals are reviewed by a human.
We will not remove content because it criticizes Our One, because it makes an argument someone finds objectionable, or because a third party pressures us to do so outside of a legal requirement. We will disclose when we receive such pressure.
Payment and renewal
Membership renews annually. We send a reminder before renewal. If you cancel before renewal, your access continues until the end of the period you paid for.
Refunds: if you cancel within 14 days of a new charge and have not substantially used the platform in that period, we will refund it. Contact us.
If the annual fee changes, we notify members at least 60 days in advance. The change requires community ratification under the Constitution. We do not raise prices unilaterally.
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
Intellectual property
The Our One platform is open-source software, licensed under AGPL-3.0. You can read the source code, audit it, and contribute to it.
The Our One name, logo, and brand are trademarks of Our One. The content you publish is yours. The content other members publish is theirs.
Account requirements
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this requirement.
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.
If we make a mistake
We will tell you. Specifically. We will not send a vague notification and hope you do not notice.
If we violate the Constitution, the violation is void. Members have the right to invoke governance processes. If we cause specific harm to you through a constitutional violation, we will make it right.
If you break the rules
Depending on severity: a warning, temporary suspension, or permanent removal. The decision is explained to you. You can appeal. Enforcement decisions are made by humans, not automated systems, for anything requiring judgment.
We do not remove members for making us uncomfortable. We remove members who harm other members.
Ending membership
You can close your account at any time in settings. No confirmation loops. No retention offers. No "are you sure?" designed to wear you down. One confirmation, and it is done.
We delete your data within 30 days. Backups are purged within 90 days. You can export everything before you go.
The legal parts
Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the Czech Republic, where Our One is based. The European Union's consumer protection and data privacy regulations (including GDPR) apply to all members.
Disputes. We would rather resolve them directly. Contact us first. If we cannot resolve a dispute, it shall be resolved by the competent courts in Prague, Czech Republic — unless your local law entitles you to bring proceedings in your own jurisdiction, in which case that right is preserved.
Limitation of liability. Our liability to you is limited to the amount you paid in the 12 months before any claim arose. We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages. This is standard.
Indemnification. You agree not to hold us responsible for content posted by other members or for your own violation of these terms.
Severability. If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remain in effect.
Changes to these terms
Material changes require 30 days notice. Changes that touch constitutional matters require community ratification. We do not change these terms quietly.
The current version is always available at our.one/terms. Previous versions are archived.
